De prachtkaars heeft felwitte bloemen in lange aren en verkleuren gedeeltelijk naar lichtroze. De knoppen zijn purperachtig van kleur. Nog niet uitgekomen bloemen zitten in een oranjeroze kelkbuis. De uitgekomen bloem is stervormig van opbouw. Een elegante, mooi vertakkende plant. Zeer geschikt voor de gemengde border. Zaaien in de volle grond op zaaibed, flink door laten groeien en later uitplanten.
