De vruchten (schijnvruchten) verspreiden een zoetige geur. Ze zijn goed eetbaar, maar flink kleiner dan die van de cultuuraardbei. De kleine vruchten hebben een frisse smaak die ze geschikt maakt voor vruchtensalades en -dranken, siroop en jam. Dun zaaien onder glas in zaaibakje, afdekken met een heel dun laagje grond. Kieming duurt wel redelijk lang. Na opkomst verspenen. Geschikt voor potten, randbeplanting en rotstuinen.
