Tuinderskwaliteit. Kassla John doet het zeer goed onder koele omstandigheden in het vroege voorjaar of de herfst. Onder glas wel ventileren bij warm weer. Ook prima geschikt voor teelt buiten bij meer zomerse warmte. Vanaf half maart kan ook ter plaatse op de tuin worden gezaaid. Zaaisels in de zomer koel houden. Ruim uitdunnen en bij droog weer voldoende vochtig houden. Schiet traag en krijgt niet gauw rand. Sla kan al bij zeer koele temperaturen (> 10°C) worden gezaaid.
