Om doorschieten te voorkomen, zaaien juni, juli en augustus in de vollegrond op zaaibed en later uitplanten OF zaaien onder glas en naar gelang periode nog buiten of al onder glas uitplanten. Minimale zaaitemperatuur van 15 ºC of hoger. Tijdens de opkweek grond vochtig houden. Uitplanten in goed bemeste grond. Geeft een stevig, maar sappig blad.
