Het kruid Salie is populair bij de bijen. Vroeger werd het blad meegekookt in melk. Deze saliemelk werd als geneeskrachtig en rustgevend beschouwd. Salie met mate gebruiken, heeft een nogal sterke smaak. Wordt zowel vers als gedroogd gebruikt in sauzen als bij vleesgerechten. Zaaien onder glas of in de vollegrond op zaaibed. Als de planten voldoende groot zijn uitplanten op een niet te vochtige, licht zonnige plek.
